The murder trial began today against a former Belmont County teacher.
Michael LaMotte is accused of shooting his wife, 60-year-old Beverly, last fall at their home along Old Cadiz Road.
Opening statements were made this morning, and witnesses were called to the stand.
One witness included in the trial was the Belmont County Sheriff’s Deputy who was the first to arrive at the scene, and see Beverly’s body in the front yard.
LaMotte originally was pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, but has since changed his plea to simply not guilty.
