It’s a massive epidemic across the country according to the Center for Disease Control and prescription drug abuse is a problem here in the Ohio Valley, too.
But even worst, it’s a gateway for much more dangerous drug use down the road. In an effort to stop the abuse, local law enforcement teamed up for Cardinal Health for a few prescription drug take backs throughout Wheeling on Saturday.
Officers accepted and properly disposed of pills, liquids, gels, patches, and other any other medications.
“Any amount of prescription drugs we can get off the streets, of people’s homes is a plus,” said Kathy Kenney of Cardinal Health. “It’s very important to get the prescriptions out of the homes so the young kids don’t get a hold of them and start down a bad path.”
The drug take backs were being held at the Elm Grove Pharmacy with the Ohio County Sheriffs Department and the Kroger on Mt. DeChantel Road with the Wheeling Police Department.
