Library Officials Asking Voters to Approve $1 million Renewal Levy

With library funding in the State of Ohio down significantly over the past several years, local libraries are struggling to meet the needs of their local communities.

The Steubenville-Jefferson County Libraries are asking voters to approve the renewal levy on May 5.

It’s a $1 million, five year operating levy intended to keep current programs in place and for some technology upgrades.

“The library renewal levy is very important to the library funding. Library funding continues to be down 31 percent since 2001. So that money again will be used for general operating funds,” said Jennifer Cesta, public relations coordinator for the Steubenville Library.

Library officials want to stress no new taxes will be added.
