Local Business Aims to Help Veterans in Nursing Homes

One local business in Brooke County is collecting new or gently used sweaters to give to Veterans in nursing homes this holiday season.

There are red bins where you can drop your sweaters off at the James Funeral home in Follansbee and the Chambers Funeral home in Wellsburg.

This is now the 5th year the funeral homes are doing this project and organizers say it’s an extremely important tradition for them to continue.

“It’s not really about a sweater for a veteran in a nursing home. It’s about showing respect and about going back and telling them that we’ll never forget. It goes a lot with our tradition and our mission where we pledge to teach and to always keep that veterans memory alive and also to teach a future generation to support our troops, to support our veterans,” said Eric Fithyan.

Also happening at both Chambers and James Funeral Homes is a campaign called “Wreaths Across America” where people can purchases wreaths for veteran’s graves, or a family members graves and the funeral home will match one for every two donated or purchased.
