The Wellsburg Church of the Nazarene celebrated Veterans Day Sunday by honoring those that have served our country.
This special service has been a tradition at the church for going on 10 years.
About 50 veterans from several different wars attended the service. Many fallen veterans were remembered as well.
The congregation sang patriotic songs and heard an emotional speech from veteran Dr. Jack Ernest.
Pastor Brian Knight says although he has only been there for a few months, he knows how important this service is to the community.
“There are over 21 million veterans in the United States. They make up a large portion of our population, and I think in many ways they are a marginalized population,” said Pastor Knight.
“One of the important aspects of our faith in Christianity is to help those that have been marginalized.”
The room was full of emotion, and even a few tears, during the service.
At the end, Dr. Jack Ernest encouraged the congregation to hug the veterans, saying it is not often enough that you get to thank a hero.
