As the temperatures begin to drop, one local community is planning ahead in case they’re hit with another harsh winter. The Mayor of Bethlehem Garrett Daniel began stocking up on salt in August.
He was able to purchase around 270 tons which is about how much they went through during last winter’s polar vortex. If all goes according to plan, Daniel believes they will have enough salt.
“If it’ll be mild to medium, I believe our salt quantity will be able to maintain itself. If it’s horrible like last year, it’ll be close to ‘What’ll we do next and what’s the next step,” Daniel said.
Daniel says if they do run out of salt he will have to purchase it at a much higher price than he initially bought it for. He said that using cinders would also be an option if they get low in supply.
