Local Elementary School Tested for Whooping Cough

Students at Weirton Elementary are being tested for whooping cough.

Michelle Truax with the Hancock County Health Department said a student was diagnosed with the virus earlier this week.

That child has since been removed and taken to be treated.

Students who made direct contact with the student will be treated.

They are asking for parents to watch for the signs and symptoms of whooping cough, which include cold symptoms for a week with a slight cough then the cough worsens.
