Two local middle school students took it upon themselves to provide some brand new piano keyboards for the school.
Savannah Croft and Alyssa Foster secured over $2,000 in funding through donorschoose.org.
Now, the school has 16 new keyboards, and a piano lab is in the works.
It’s a project close to the heart of Croft, who said she loves to play the piano.
“I thought other students would like to enjoy that opportunity, too. And studies have also shown that it helps boost intelligence, and now that we have got it, I am very grateful that we get to play this and have other students to be able to have the opportunity to do it,” Croft shared.
“Whenever I explained this to my eighth grade chorus class, they were extremely excited about the prospect of actually being able to do something to help their school, and something that will be able to actually stay at the school for years to come,” Julie Schultz, Bridge Street Middle School Music Teacher, said.
Schultz said the students also have a second initiative they hope will benefit the Bridge Street music department.
They recently began a fund drive called “Small Change Equals Big Changes.”
The students are collecting their spare change to be able to buy acoustic panels for the music room to enhance the sound.
They’ve already collected over $100.
