One local police officer is doing last minute preparations for the “Tour de Force” 9/11 Memorial Bike Ride, a fundraising bicycle ride from Ground Zero in New York City to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Officer Josh Sanders with the Wheeling Police Department has cycled in the “Tour de Force” for the past four years.
The money raised benefits law enforcement families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty which is what inspired Sanders to start participating.
“Back in 2012, the West Virginia State Police lost two state troopers. That’s when I decided to start riding,” said Officer Sanders.
“One of my good friends is a state trooper and bicyclist with me as well. Since then, he and I have been participating in the event.”
Sanders leaves for Washington, D.C. on Friday, but there is still time to donate at grouprev.com/jsanderstdf.
His fundraising goal is $3,000.
