Some frightening new numbers are out regarding teens and domestic violence.
One in every four teens across the Mountain State– and one of three across the nation will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime.
During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, the Wheeling YWCA has partnered with some local schools to help spread the word about the growing problem.
On Tuesday, the Wheeling Park basketball team will wear purple warm up shirts before their home game against Brooke. Next week, John Marshall and Wheeling Park will wear purple warm-ups. Patricia Flanigan with the Family Violence Prevention Program said the cheerleaders will also wear purple ribbons, and that statistics about teen dating violence will be read throughout the games.
Some Wetzel County Schools also have some activities planned for later this month.
On February 17th, the staff and students at Paden City Middle and High Schools will wear purple for the day. They also have some activities planned for an upcoming basketball game.
