A West Virginia man was arrested and charged with child neglect after police said he left his two young children in a vehicle while he went shopping.

Gregory Apanowicz, 42, of Fairmont allegedly left his children, ages 7 and 8, in his truck, which was parked in the fire lane of Walmart.

The White Hall Police Department said the children were playing around inside the truck while it was running, and that they attempted to hide between the seats when they saw police.

Apanowicz should not have been driving, police said, because his license was revoked for DUI.

He is charged with child neglect creating risk of injury.
