Man Faces Involuntary Manslaughter Charge After Hancock County Overdose

Weirton Police responded to a call of a possible overdose at a home on Overbrook Drive in Hancock County.

When officers arrived, they say they found Deanna Nichole Tibbs, 21, had overdosed and was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Further investigation by the Weirton PD found that George Kovach II, 44, of Mingo Junction had allegedly purchased heroin in Steubenville, transported it back to West Virginia, and delivered it to Tibbs.

Police say both Tibbs and Kovach were inside a car at a secluded area on Cove Road. That’s when police say Tibbs injected the heroin provided by Kovach.

According to a press release from the Weirton PD, Tibbs began to show signs of an adverse reaction to the heroin and Kovach took her back to the residence on Overbrook Drive, where he attempted to provide medical attention.

Kovach was arrested and charged with Transporting Heroin into the State, Delivery of Heroin and Involuntary Manslaughter.

His bond was set at $100,000.
