The SPII Taskforce along with the FBI, Belmont County Sheriff, and Shadyside police made a shocking arrest Thursday evening.
Joseph Magyer of Shadyside is now facing charges of Pandering Obscenities Involving a Minor and Possession of Child Pornography.
Authorities served a warrant at Magyer’s Leona Avenue home yesterday across the street from Leona Middle School after receiving a tip.
He was booked into Belmont County Jail on an $80,000 bond.
Sheriff Dave Lucas says cases like these take a lot of time and work because so much of the crime comes through technology.
“A lot of it is internet based, they’re going over the internet, computer, downloading, transferring, they’re sharing,” said Lucas. “These people share the photographs with each other.”
Lucas says Magyer’s case in still under investigation so even more charges could be added on later, too. Authorities don’t know right now if Magyer had any physical contact with children.
Since he did live across the street from Leona Middle School any parent aware of any contact their children might have had with Magyer is urged to contact the Belmont County Sheriff.
