It’s not a sight you see every day. A man was spotted walking a goat along U.S. 40, just west of St. Clairsville Monday evening.

Steve Wescott, along with “Miles” the goat, is walking from Seattle to New York City. Steve had been an aspiring musician when his best friend dropped in from his missionary work in Kenya.

After that friend shared his experiences with Wescott, something clicked. Now Steve and his goat are walking to raise funds to build an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya.

“When you walk with a goat, all plans go out the window,” said Wescott. “He has been the best thing for the project. You know? No one would know who I was unless I had this goat.  His name’s ‘Miles’ and he’s just, he’s just a showstopper.”

Steve named “Miles” after the distances he travels. Originally, he wanted to do this walk with a dog.  But after the dog he wanted to bring got an injury which prevented him from making the trip. So Steve obtained “LeeRoy” the goat. Sadly “LeeRoy” passed away in October of last year, so now “Miles” is along for the journey.
