A Wheeling Island man pleaded guilty to abuse charges after he left his daughter in a car while he went into his home and passed out on the couch in late July.
Cory Rockhold was in court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse creating risk of death or injury. Judge James Mazzone sentenced him to 1 to 5 years in prison. In addition to the sentence, after his release, Rockhold will have to register in the child abuse registry for 5 years and will also have 5 years of supervised release.
Wheeling Police arrested Rockhold after they found his 18-month-old daughter in his car on South Wabash Street on Wheeling Island. Police report they got the girl out of the car and say she was drenched in sweat. They also reportedly found marijuana, and cocaine in his car.
Police found Rockhold inside his residence passed out on a couch, and when asked if he had a child, he reportedly responded, “No, I do not.”
