Tuesday night power was knocked out to over 1,000 people in the Moundsville-area, causing a number of problems. A mandatory water conservation is now being enforced and a number of people still remain without power as of Wednesday night.
Walmart in Moundsville was also affected, the store took a power surge around 6:30 p.m.Tuesday evening. The store then switched over to generator power, but around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning they ran into a major problem as the generator gave out causing some of their produce to go bad.
Walmart would not confirm an exact dollar amount or tell us what all was damaged. However, some people tell 7News the damage was more than $300,000. The corporate office says customers have nothing to worry about. Anything that was damaged will be restocked.
PSD #4 customers in Marshall County are also on a mandatory water conservation. This is for the next 48 hours. Due to the power outage, water tanks are very low.
