Martins Ferry Man Arrested in Wheeling on a Number of Charges

Wheeling Police arrested a Martins Ferry man on a number of charges early Sunday morning. Officers said they first noticed Craig Burt, 41, driving in the 1200 block of Market Street without his headlights on.

When officers put on their lights and sirens and tried to catch up with Burt, he made several turns before finally slowing down. The officer ran Burt’s license and registration and found a number of offenses. He had 10 active suspensions listed under an Ohio driver’s license, and found eight active suspensions on his West Virginia license. Five of those were related to DUI and driving while revoked for DUI.

Officers arrested Burt and placed him in the back of the cruiser and searched his vehicle, and reportedly found an open can of beer and a handgun, which has serial numbers matching a gun stolen from the Moundsville Police Department on September 7, 2013.

He is facing felon in possession of a firearm charges, third offense DUI charges, and third offense while driving revoked for DUI charges.

Burt is being held in the Northern Regional Jail on $75,000 cash only bond. He was arraigned by Magistrate Harry Radcliffe on Sunday afternoon.
