A teacher in Martins Ferry could be facing criminal charges after sending racy text messages with a former student.
Allegations against that teacher say contact through text message and Instagram, started with a female student after her 8th grade year.
The girl sent a partially nude picture and the teacher reportedly reciprocated.
The incident was reported after someone saw something inappropriate on her cell phone and told her parents.
Belmont County prosecutor Dan Fry says the teacher could easily face felony criminal charges.
The teacher has been placed on leave with Martins Ferry Schools.
“A teacher should never be communicating with a student in my opinion on social media. Certainly if they are communicating it should be with parental consent and it should be school related,” said Fry.
Fry says the investigation will take weeks to examine personal phones and iPads. Once finished, charges will be determined. Until charges are filed, the teacher’s name is not legally allowed to be released.
