This weekend marks the unofficial start to Summer, which means there’s plenty of things to do in the Wheeling area. A half marathon, a bike tour, live entertainment, and fireworks; there are so many things to see and do, here’s a little breakdown.
To start the weekend off, there will be a car show from 4-7 with live entertainment starting at 6:30 Friday night at Centre Market. The admission is free and ti’s part of the Centre Market Summer Concert Series with Market Vines, “We’ll close down the street and Market Vines will bring some tables out, so you can enjoy your food and everything and dine outside, so in addition to the Brewery will bring some extra people around and I think it’ll be a good place to spend your first and third Friday nights in Wheeling,” said Corey Manning, the manager of Casa di Vini.
Then bright and early Saturday morning, the Ogden Newspaper’s Half Marathon will kick off. The start of the race will cause some traffic restrictions, so you may want to plan on getting there early, “The only road that will suffer a road closure is Main Street. At 7:30 A-M, Main Street will be closed while the walkers start the race, a brief opening will occur, so that traffic can get thru; however at 8 o’clock it’ll be shut down again for the beginning of the half marathon,” said Lieutenant Phil Redford with the Wheeling Police Department.
Chapline Street will be an alternate route for drivers and National Road near Bridge Street Middle School will be down to one lane, so watch out for the runners and walkers.
Saturday, Oglebay will hold their annual Memorial Day Celebrations with many of you flocking to the park and pool and there will be fireworks at dusk.
Cabel’as will host Dock Dogs Saturday morning at 10.
Sunday will be the 10th Annual Wheeling Heritage Trail Bicycle Tour with registration starting at 7, at Wheeling’s Heritage Port.
