Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Highmark Foundation, Moundsville Middle School received two elliptical desks and a stationary bike.

The idea is that kids can exercise during class instead of sitting still for hours. They also have exercise balls and special cushioned seats to make students more comfortable.

It’s one of the only classrooms like it in the Mountain State.

“Well they are in middle school, they have to move. Some of them, the older they get the more they slow down. So it wakes up my eighth graders and my sixth graders, and it allows them to channel their energy,” said Health and Phys. Ed teacher Suzanne Muncy.

“Instead of just sitting there the whole time you can move your legs and it helps you focus more,” added Moundsville Middle School student, Jarrett Groves.

“It’s a lot different than other classes because your moving and paying attention more,” said student Shawn Jones.

There are several other classrooms that have the exercise balls, including the math room.
