More than 30 families across Ohio County woke up Tuesday morning to find their mailboxes smashed.
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Department said approximately 36 mailboxes were smashed throughout Monday night along GC&P Road, Dallas Pike and a few other neighborhoods in the Eastern part of the county.
The Sheriff’s Department does believe all these acts of vandalism are connected and that baseball bats or similar objects were used to smash the mailboxes. This is not just a silly prank either as it’s a federal crime to knowingly destroy someone’s mail or mailbox. In this case, when the person responsible is caught, he or she could be facing some serious jail time.
