Morgantown Girls Win OVAC Tennis Championship


The female portion of the OVAC Tennis Championships wrapped up Wednesday at West Liberty University with singles competition.  The Morgantown High girls demonstrated a dominating performance by winning all four singles categories.  They had already won all three doubles categories on Monday, so they had a clean sweep in this year’s OVAC tournament. 

Morgantown High was crowned 5A OVAC Champion by accumulating 28 out of a possible 28 points in team competition.  Runner-up in this year’s competition in the 5A division with 16 points was University High, followed by Parkersburg South and Wheeling Park with 7 points, Brooke and John Marshall 6 points each, and Indian Creek and St. Clairsville 1 point each.

Linsly captured the 1A-4A Championships with 17 points, followed by Oak Glen with 7, and Weirton Madonna with 3 points.

Singles Results

#1 Singles – Abby Rosiello (Morgantown) defeated Amika Ekinem (Linsly)  8-1.

#2 Singles – Lexie Rosiello (Morgantown) defeated Sheridan White (Linsly) 8-5.

#3 Singles – Sydney Kacik (Morgantown) defeated Madison Helmick (Linsly) 8-3.

#4 Singles – Lily McKnight (Morgantown) defeated Rachel Robinette (University) 8-0.

The OVAC Tennis Championships will conclude tomorrow at West Liberty University with boy’s singles competition beginning at 8:30a.m..
