One local community is being recognized as one of West Virginia’s best cities to live in.
HomeSnacks listed Moundsville as the seventh best city to live in out of 33 places in the Mountain State.
Analysts set specific criteria for cities to be considered for the top best places to live. They only considered cities with a threshold of over 5,000 people. That left only 33 places for consideration.
The remaining criteria included:
– Population Density (Higher better)
– Unemployment Rate
– Adjusted Median Income (Median income adjusted for the cost of living)
– Housing Vacancy Rate
– Education (Expenditures per student and Student Teacher Ratio)
– Commute Time
The city with the lowest score was ranked the number 1 best place to live. Moundsville came in seventh with a score of 13.69.
Moundsville ranked highly because of the quality of education for its residents, fifth overall, and it’s the most densely populated placed in the state.
Named after the many Native American burial mounds created more than 2,000 years ago, Moundsville has an impressive amount of history for a small city. In addition to the many historic burial grounds, it’s home to a retired state penitentiary and the Palace of Gold.
