A mystery message with the power to crash your iPhone is spreading like wildfire on social media.
The text message is in Arabic and works like a kill switch.
Brian Cooley is a Technology Analyst for CNET. He said iPhone users just recently discovered the glitch, but it’s more fun for pranksters than a major problem for Apple.
Cooley also doesn’t think anyone specific is behind the glitch. “I think this is just some weird amount of code. As far as the phone knows, this is just a bunch of ones and zeros, but this particular bunch is one that it’s just having a hard time shortening.”
Apple released a statement about the glitch that reads, “We are aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update.”
If you’ve received this glitch to crash your iPhone, there is a simple fix. Just have someone send you a new text message, then turn your phone back on and it should reboot itself without a problem.
