The Wheeling Nailers,  are very excited to announce their 2015-16 promotional schedule. Saturday night celebrity appearances are the major highlights of the promotional schedule, and there are also fun giveaway items, in addition to the returns of other popular events.

The 25th season of professional hockey in Wheeling begins on October 15th, when the Nailers host the Brampton Beast at 7:05. That night will be filled with exciting events, starting with Pucktoberfest – a pregame party, which will feature an autograph session with Nailers and Thunderbirds alumni. Three Thunderbirds already confirmed for the night are Louis Dumont, Darren Schwartz, and Doug Sauter. All fans in attendance that evening will receive a magnet schedule when they enter WesBanco Arena. Before the 2016-17 season begins, there will be one last look back at 2015-16, as the 2016 Eastern Conference Championship banner will be raised to the rafters.

After Opening Night, the next Saturday home game will take place on October 29th. Since that is Halloween Weekend, kids will be able to Trick or Treat in the concourse, and there will be a costume contest as well. Note that the start time for that evening is 8:05.

November will see a few more games on the slate than October, and the first notable promotion will take place on the 11th – Veteran’s Day. The Nailers will honor past and present members of the military on Military Appreciation Night, while donning camouflage jerseys in a re-match of last year’s classic Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against the Reading Royals. Four days later, students will take over WesBanco Arena on Education Day – a special 11:05 a.m. start time against Wheeling’s division rival from the country to the north (a good lesson in Geography). Bam Bam Sticks will be given away that morning, so expect lots of noise.

After Thanksgiving, the holiday season will approach quickly, and once again, the Nailers will be assisting those in need, holding their annual Teddy Bear Toss Night on November 26th against Greenville. If you are one of the first 2,500 fans in attendance that night, you won’t leave empty-handed, as bobbleheads will be handed out of Spike hoisting the E.A. “Bud” Gingher Trophy from Wheeling’s Eastern Conference Championship season.

The following weekend, on December 3rd, the Nailers are going to knock one out of the park. But in order to do that, they needed help from the baseball team up the road – the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clint Hurdle, the Pirate Parrot, and the Cannonball Crew will all be coming to WesBanco Arena, as the Utah Grizzlies will be forced to walk the plank. Wheeling will be wearing jerseys styled like the Pirates for that night’s contest.

The always popular New Year’s Eve game is back on the schedule for a second straight year, as the Elmira Jackals will make their lone visit to the Ohio Valley for a 6:05 puck drop. That will also be Throwback Night, as Wheeling will take the ice as the Thunderbirds, and all tickets will be $10. Additionally, there will be a New Year’s Eve Party and Bam Bam Sticks, as fans will be invited to ring in 2017 with their hockey friends.

When the new year begins, the force of hockey will be strong in West Virginia, as Star Wars Night returns to WesBanco Arena on January 14th. That will be the third special jersey of the season for the Nailers, but it comes with a fun twist, as the Kalamazoo Wings will also be getting dressed up. Wheeling will be playing the role of the Jedi and Kalamazoo will be the Stormtroopers. The two teams will wear those same uniforms for a game at Wings Event Center as well. But the fun doesn’t stop there, as Star Wars characters will be on hand, that evening will be Scout Night (both boys and girls), and the first 1,000 kids will receive a backpack.

As everyone will recall, the Nailers weren’t the only team in the organization to capture some hardware in 2015-16, as their NHL affiliate, the Pittsburgh Penguins won their fourth Stanley Cup. Two-time Stanley Cup Champion Pascal Dupuis will be coming to Wheeling on January 28th, as the Nailers celebrate Pittsburgh Penguins Night.

February gets started on the 4th at 8:05 with the return of a popular promotion – Princesses and Pirates Night, when young fans will be able to dress up, while meeting characters from movies and television shows. Two weeks later, on the 18th, the Nailers will again give their fans the best of two different worlds, when they host Steelers vs. Browns Night. Fans will be encouraged to wear the gear of their favorite NFL team, while getting the opportunity to meet former Pittsburgh Steeler Merril Hoge and former Cleveland Brown Earnest Byner.

Country Weekend will take place at WesBanco Arena on March 10th and 11th, combining some fan favorite promotions into two days full of fun. Fans who purchase tickets to both games will receive a special edition hat. The Friday night game will feature a post game concert. Then, on Saturday night, it’s Faith and Family Night and the Fourth Annual Duck Dynasty Night, with John Godwin and Justin Martin coming as the stars from the show.

Local youth hockey is on the rise, and on March 12th, the Nailers are inviting all youth hockey players to wear their jerseys to the game for a 5:05 face-off against the Toledo Walleye. Later in the month, on the 25th, trading cards will be given away to the first 2,500 fans in attendance, and after the game against the Idaho Steelheads, the entire Wheeling team will be signing autographs.

There will be two home games in April, and both will be lots of fun. First, on the 2nd, it’s the annual Pups ‘n Pucks Game, in which fans are invited to bring their dogs to the game. To celebrate the occasion, there will be a weiner dog race during intermission.

Finally, the regular season will conclude on April 7th against the Kalamazoo Wings on Fan Appreciation Night, when prizes will be distributed throughout the evening.

All Friday home games will be Flat Screen Fridays and Frosty Fridays, in which one lucky fan will walk away from each game with a new flat screen television, and $1 beers will be available for all fans 21 years of age and older. Most Saturdays will feature two players signing autographs after the game, while all Sunday home contests will be followed by a post game skate with the team.
