One local animal shelter is undergoing several renovations to give the animals more freedom.
Candace Fleagane describes herself as a dog person, but for the past 3 years she’s made it her mission to revamp the cat adoption program at the Belmont County Animal Shelter. She holds adoption events throughout Belmont County to bring the cats to the public.
The shelter has also received new, larger cages for the kittens and an outdoor enclosure for older cats to roam freely.
Fleagane hopes the increase space will give people the chance to come in and get to know the cats and all their different personalities.
“The main purpose of this is of course the comfort of the cats so they have much more room,” she says. “I’m hoping that it will entice the public to come out and visit our cats that are a year old or older and give our adult cats a chance for adoption.”
The Belmont County Animal Shelter is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout the week, but are closed on Tuesday for surgeries.
