New Details Released in Fatal Accident Near the Highlands

UPDATE: Noon – Friday, Sept. 30. New details have been released on a fatal accident in Ohio County that occurred late Thursday night.

Police say the victim was 62-year-old Bernard Howard Bachmann of Washington.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Pat Butler, a semi was headed westbound when he lost control, went across the median and hit three cars headed eastbound.

Bachmann was pronounced dead at the scene.

No drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor, but they are waiting for reports.

Sheriff Butler says the semi truck driver may have hydroplaned.


ORIGINAL: 10:19 p.m. – Thursday, Sept. 29.

 Ohio County Sheriff Pat Butler has confirmed that one person was killed in an accident near Exit 10 on I-70 in Ohio County on Thursday night.

Butler said the crash involved multiple vehicles, and that a large amount of police and first responders are on the scene.

All lanes of I-70 eastbound are closed while the accident is being cleaned up and investigated.

According to Ohio County EMA Director Lou Vargo, it all happened when a Semi Truck and three other vehicles collided.
