New Hotels Promise to Attract Guests and Jobs to Ohio Valley

In Belmont County, three new hotels are under construction, all near the Ohio Valley Mall.

And where new businesses go, jobs follow.

A Residence Inn by Marriott is going up at St. Clair Commons, between the Ohio Valley Mall and the Ohio Valley Plaza.

A Hawthorne Suites is going up just past the Hampton Inn.

And outside the Ohio Valley Mall, next to HH Gregg, is a Candlewood Inn, set to open in late July.

Candlewood Suites is specifically geared toward extended stay guests.

Each unit has a kitchen with stove and oven, and pots, pans and dishes, as well as free laundry facilities on site.

Every day they get calls from people who want a room now–and they believe the need is only going to ramp up.

“If that cracker plant happens, there’s going to be a need, even beyond the three that are being built now, I’m sure of it,” said Marianne Shaw of Candlewood. “With the amount of employees, the construction people that’ll be in, working on that to develop it, there will be jobs.”

Candlewood Suites is set up inside the mall, next to Auntie Ann’s Pretzels, six days a week, taking applications for jobs, both full and part time.

They say if you have a valid drivers license, and you can pass a drug test, they have jobs ranging from management to front desk to housekeeping.

They’re taking applications Monday through Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday 10 am to 2pm.

They say there’s room for advancement in the business, and you’ll build skills that are transferable.
