Some good news when it comes to breathing new life into old building in Downtown Wheeling and this news should bring back some fond memories for those of you who remember the historic Wheeling Jamboree.
A new multi-purpose facility is undergoing a makeover at the former Downtown Kaufman’s store on Main Street that will house a museum, souvenir gift shop, and an event sound stage to live broadcast performances on a brand new radio station and internet stream. It’s something that has been in the works for a number of months now. It’s a project to help bring an increase of tourism to the Wheeling area in addition to providing us locals with more entertainment options to enjoy. Organizers said private donations are a huge part of this project.
Organizers also said the construction is expected to wrap up as soon as August, but the radio and online streaming could go live within the next few weeks.
Live studios for WWOV 101.1FM, which has been on the air since October, will also be added. Many said they’re excited about this country music revival for Downtown Wheeling. The Wheeling jamboree is the second oldest Country Music Show in the U.S.
