New Mayor Elected in Weirton, Transit Levy Goes Down

Harold “Bubba” Miller has been elected the new Mayor of Weirton.  He defeated incumbent George Kondik 1,853 votes to 1,676.

The Weirton Transit Levy failed after not meeting the 60 percent passage.

Ward 1 has a new councilman, Tim Connell.  He defeated Bill Zanieski by less than 50 votes.

The Ward 5 councilman race was also a close race but Doug Jackson did defeat George Gaughenbaugh by less than 100 votes.

In Ward 3, Fred Marsh was re-elected over Ronnie Jones.

And Ward 7 Councilman Terry Weigl has been re-elected as well.

Voters in Weirton will be deciding the fate of many Tuesday night, including who will be the next mayor.

Current Mayor George Kondik is up against Harold “Bubba” Miller in a tight race. Only 100 votes separated the men during the primary election.

Also, on the ballot are the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th Ward Councilmen.

There is only one levy on the ballot and that is a proposed five-year levy, raising $347,700 for each year to support the operations of the Weirton Transit Corp.

Polls closed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Watch 7 News at 10 and 11 for election results.
