A new procedure at Wheeling Hospital could mean quicker recovery time for cardiac patients.

Heart surgery usually means an 8-inch incision, cutting through the rib cage, about a week in the hospital, and months of recovery. But not anymore thanks to a new doctor at Wheeling Hospital.

Dr. David Haybron can perform a less invasive surgery which can be covered with just a Band Aid, and the patient can be sent home in only three days. He says there’s a few positives when it comes to the new surgery.

“Number 1: It’s a bit more amenable to patients embracing or being accepting of the procedure in the first place. But also shorter recovery times, less incisional pain, and less transfusion use, those are the primary benefits that we’ve seen,” said Cardiac Surgeon at Wheeling Hospital, Dr. Haybron.

Dr. Haybron says if the new procedure sounds like something you or someone you know might need, you should first talk to your primary care doctor before consulting with a cardiologist.
