Newell Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting 9-Year-Old Boy

A Newell man is facing three felony counts of sexual assault stemming from an incident with a 9-year-old boy.

Hancock County Detective Matt Harvey says the investigation began in June after the victim and witnesses were interviewed at the Comfort House. Officers then obtained a warrant for the arrest of 38-year-old Kevin Halstead, who was found in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where Pennsylvania state police were able to arrest him. Harvey said the charges stem from three separate incidents that allegedly occurred at Halstead’s home in Newell in late June.

Halstead was extradited to Hancock County last week and appeared in court on Friday morning where he was charged with three counts of sexual assault and was given a bond of $900,000.

The case has been bound over to the grand jury and will be presented on Tuesday.
