Newell, WV Man Pleads Not Guilty to Helping Son Sexually Assault 9-year-old


 A Newell man police say helped his son sexually assault a little boy pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon in Hancock County.

Karl Halstead, 71, is charged with conspiracy and aiding and abetting first degree sexual assault. He was recently extradited back to West Virginia from Indiana after fighting the process for five months.

Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher says Halstead helped his son, Kevin Halstead, sexually assault a nine-year-old boy at their Newell home. 

Kevin Halstead was arrested in September 2014 and charged with five counts of sexual assault in the first degree, one count of kidnapping, one count of abduction with intent to defile, one count of child abuse creating a risk of serious bodily injury, and one count of conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Karl Halstead will be back in court on March 16.
