NFL Agrees to Donate $30 Million For Brain Research

The NFL has had its fair share of bad publicity over the last few years and just recently more has turned up.

Reports have been released by a Senior House Democrat alleging that the NFL improperly attempted to influence the grant review process for a National Institutes of Heath brain injury study.

The NFL had agreed to donate $30 million to the National Institutes of Health to fund a brain research study, but backed out because of its objections to Boston University Researcher Robert Stern.

Stern is one of the leading experts on the link between football and brain diseases, such as CTE.

Wheeling attorney Bob Fitzsimmons was the first person to win a lawsuit against the NFL. He says the news comes as no surprise, the NFL has been going back and forth on the finding for years.

“It’s really despicable that a corporation that big, that somebody that we love, the product that they sell, but the credibility has to be question at this point. There are some major problems and some major wrongs that are going on and it’s not fair to the public,” said Fitzsimmons.
