No Criminal Charges Filed Against Mother of 30 Pound 12-year-old

STEUBENVILLE, OH– It’s a heartbreaking story. Twelve year-old Nicholle has been sick for nearly all her life and weighs only 30 pounds. Pictures of her recently surfaced online, prompting an investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Despite interviewing the mother extensively and the ongoing investigation by his office and children services, Sheriff Fred Abdalla said there will not be any charges filed at this time.

“All indications of talking with her yesterday, I think she did the best she could do,” Sheriff Abdalla said.

Nicholle has had a long list of health problems, including cerebral palsy and hasn’t weighed more than 30 pounds for quite a few years.

Contrary to what is being said on the internet, Nicholle can’t eat any solid food. When her mother feeds her, instead of the food going into her stomach, it goes into her lungs or is spit out.

“No one knew that the food wasn’t going in the stomach. It’s not criminal. “There’s no criminal case here.”

Sheriff Abdalla went on to say the recent findings led him to the decision that Nicholle’s mother did not intentionally do anything wrong while trying to raise her child.

Nicholle has since been taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Despite the Voice for Nicholle Facebook page asking for money, Nicholle’s mother says the medical expenses will be covered.
