BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) – An Ohio man whose wife is accused of suffocating their three young sons has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting her when she a teenager.

An indictment says 43-year-old Bellefontaine resident Joseph Pilkington was considered to be Brittany Pilkington’s stepfather when he impregnated her in 2009, when she was 17.

The now-23-year-old Brittany Pilkington has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and could face a death sentence if convicted of killing their sons.

The Bellefontaine Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1KaBd0S ) that Joseph Pilkington entered the not guilty plea Monday in Logan County court.

The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify people who might be victims of sexual assault, but Brittany Pilkington’s name and image have been widely published since her arrest in her sons’ deaths.
