A not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity plea have been entered for a Jefferson County man accused of shooting and killing two men at the Jefferson Sportsman’s Club.

Wayne Everly Jr. appeared in court on Wednesday morning. He was recently indicted by the Jefferson County Grand Jury for two counts of aggravated murder in the shooting deaths of Barry Grant and Christopher Bradley.

Attorney Steve Stickles entered a not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity plea on his behalf. Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said this does not come as a surprise. She said more attorneys are entering this kind of plea because it preserves the defendant’s right to argue that he is both not guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity.

If convicted, Everly could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
