While summer holiday weekends are a time for fun and celebration, authorities remain on high alert because accidents happen.

In Marshall County, crews responded to four ATV accidents over the Memorial Day weekend. Four people had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter.

While they’re all expected to be okay, it can be a tough time for emergency first responders.

EMA Director Tom Hart says a number of things factor in– including helmet use, alcohol and speed.

“Just please try to do it safely and responsibly. You know a lot of times you get large groups of folks who go out, and they have a real good time doing it, they just have to do it safely and responsibly,” Hart said.

Hart went on to say sometimes, in the remote parts of the county, it can take longer for EMS crews to arrive, adding to the seriousness of the situation.
