Obama Executive Order: Federal employees can go home early on Christmas Eve

President Obama has issued an Executive Order stating that federal workers will work a half-day on Christmas Eve.

Obama signed the Order Friday, saying that “All executive branch departments and agencies of the federal government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty for the last half of the scheduled day,” on December 24.

Exceptions will be made for “reasons of national security, defense, or other public need.”

Workers will still be paid a full day.

The half day is less than what many employees wanted, as a petition posted on the White House website – signed by 26,000 people as of Friday – asked for a full day off.
