St. Clairsville and Belmont County received some good news Tuesday from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Funding has been recommended for the remainder of the Mall Road Connector project.
It’s a project that’s expected to solve a number of problems at one time. Mall Road is often congested and projections show it will become far worse in the next 20 years.
The funding ODOT has recommended will complete the already-started Mall Road Connector.
It starts on Route 40 in St. Clairsville beside the former All Fore One Miniature Golf Course and it will end up near Lowes in the Ohio Valley Plaza.
“It’s one of only three projects in Ohio that have been recommended for construction funding. There were nearly $600 million in applications mainly from the urban areas. There were only $33 million available statewide. And this is one of the three projects that’s been selected by the ODOT staff,” said Chairman, Belmont County Transportation Improvement District Dennis Bigler.
“And we are just so appreciative of the opportunity and the announcement today. It’s great news and what a great beginning for a new beginning for the City of St. Clairsville,” said St. Clairsville Mayor Bob Vincenzo.
Bigler says it’s appropriate that the announcement comes before Mayor Vincenzo comes to the end of his term of office. He says the mayor has been instrumental for over 12 years in bringing the project to fruition.
The project will go out to bid next December and work should start the following March.
