Offensive Tweet from University Account Causes Controversy with Students

A university Twitter account caused a controversy among students in Kansas.

WDAF-TV reports the tweet, sent from the “Jayhawk Buddy System” Twitter, gives a shout out to “mostly ladies” who are getting their “road work on this a.m.”

A handful of students took to Twitter to responded to the tweet, saying it is offensive, sexist and reinforces a harmful message to women.

The report went on to say that students believe the tweet describes what is sometimes called a “walk of shame,” which can refer to a student walking home after spending the night at someone else’s house.

The university has since deleted the tweet, but students say that’s not enough. In fact, students say they are most upset the university deleted the tweet, instead of apologizing for it.

Kansas University officials said they are looking into the matter and reviewing appropriate use of social media.
