A police officer remains in the hospital following an accidental shooting early Monday night.

It started after Sistersville Police were notified of a stolen vehicle.

While on patrol, officers noticed a vehicle matching its description.

When officers turned on their lights to execute a stop, the driver reportedly decided to speed away.

An off duty officer met the chase on Route 2 in Paden City.

After a minor collision, arresting officers were able to stop the chase.

While attempting to re-holster his weapon, one of the officers accidentally shot himself in the thigh area.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but according to Chief Rob Haught he sustained a “non life-threatening” injury.

The name of the suspect is not being released at this time, but Chief Haught says more arrests are expected.
