Flu season is almost here, and pharmacies and health departments are prepared with plenty of flu shots to keep residents from getting the contagious, and sometimes deadly disease.
Health officials said this is the best time to get the flu vaccine before the illness hits the area. For anyone afraid of needles, there are other ways the vaccine can be received. The Ohio County Health Department said the peak flu season usually starts in October and ends in May. It takes a few weeks for vaccine to become effective, so that’s why health officials said it is better to receive it early.
Ohio County Health Department Administrator Howard Gamble since there are other ways to receive the vaccine, there is no excuse why someone should not get it. He said for needle-conscious people there is a nasal injection, and even some smaller needles that are done under the skin.
Right now, the Ohio County Health Department has a full supply of the flu vaccine. Since there are several strains of the flu, the vaccines prevent the most common types.
