There are several projects going on within Ohio County Schools to help flood victims get back on their feet and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Wheeling Middle School and Ritchie Elementary PTO adopted an elementary school in Birch River. They’re collecting school supplies for kids who have nothing to start the year with.

Any donations can be dropped off on July 20 from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Wheeling Middle.

But that’s not all, the state champion Wheeling Park Patriots football team is collecting cases of water and athletic supplies.

“Anything from spikes to helmets to shoulder pads and we plan to donate it to the cities and schools in southern West Virginia,” said Zach Torbett, senior and football player at WPHS.

And the extended school program at Madison Elementary is also helping out by collecting cleaning supplies.

Fifth graders were able to make posters to encourage students and staff to bring in items to help.

Last Friday those supplies were taken to Youth Services System to be sent down.
