Ohio Family May be Connected to Miami Murder

Archives

Authorities are searching for an Ohio family who they believe may be connected to a man found dead in a Miami motel.

Miami police Lt. Carlos Castellanes says 30-year-old Michael Douglas Evans is wanted for escaping and eluding police in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He’s likely traveling with his 34-year-old wife Kristy Evans and her 7-year-old daughter Jala Barnett. The mother and daughter were reported missing and endangered in Ohio on May 7. Florida authorities issued an Amber alert for the girl Tuesday.

According to police, 46-year-old Joseph Everett Moniz was found in a pool of blood on Saturday. The family was also staying at the motel. Castellanes didn’t say why they believe his death is linked to the couple.

Police believe the family may be traveling in a stolen blue 2005 Audi A4 convertible with Florida license plates.
