Ohio pastor shot, killed during Sunday services

An Ohio pastor with deep roots in the Dayton community was shot and killed at the pulpit during services at his church.

Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 70-year-old William B. Schooler.

Schooler was the pastor of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church. Witnesses said around 12:30 Sunday, 20 people were inside the church and the choir was singing when the suspect walked up to the pastor and fired two shots.

He was a community leader, having served as the past interim president of the Dayton school board and current president of the local Baptist ministers union.

A man whom witnesses identified as the pastor’s brother has been taken into custody. No official police reports have been released.
