An Ohio pastor with deep roots in the Dayton community was shot and killed at the pulpit during services at his church.
Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 70-year-old William B. Schooler.
Schooler was the pastor of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church. Witnesses said around 12:30 Sunday, 20 people were inside the church and the choir was singing when the suspect walked up to the pastor and fired two shots.
He was a community leader, having served as the past interim president of the Dayton school board and current president of the local Baptist ministers union.
A man whom witnesses identified as the pastor’s brother has been taken into custody. No official police reports have been released.
