A high school principal says he thinks students are behind the theft of some chickens from a coop behind his house in northeastern Ohio.

Five chickens belonging to Austintown Fitch High School Principal Chris Berni were taken sometime early Tuesday from his rural property. One chicken was found alive in a burlap sack near the school’s baseball field. The other four are still missing.

If it was an end-of-the-year prank, Berni doesn’t think it’s funny. He called the chicken rustling evil and disrespectful. Someone left a beer can behind, which leads him to believe the culprits are students.

The (Youngstown) Vindicator reports that some likely suspects were interviewed but nobody fessed up. The last day of school was Tuesday. The investigation continues.
