One Dead in Cameron Accidental Shooting

UPDATE:  

Cameron Police Chief Mike Younger said the shooting happened when a 14 and 19-year-old were playing with a handgun they believed was unloaded. The 19-year-old was accidentally shot in the forehead, and was later pronounced dead. His name is not being released as of 5:20 p.m. Friday.

Younger also said the 14-year-old was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained. Five people under the age of 19 were in the house at the time of the shooting. Police are not sure who the gun belongs to.

Police said neighbors in the tight-knit community are very shaken after the tragic accidental shooting.

One person was killed in an accidental shooting in Cameron on Friday afternoon. It happened near North Avenue around 3:00 p.m.

According to authorities, they believe the shooting was accidental. Investigators are working to figure out whether it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, or if someone else fired the shot.

North Avenue remains closed, and police and first responders are still on the scene as of 4:20 p.m.
