Wheeling Police have confirmed one person is dead after falling down an elevator shaft of the old Boury building on 16th Street and Main.
According to Wheeling Chief Deputy Marty Kimball, Kevin Purpura, 39, of South Wheeling fell as he was inspecting the shaft around 1:00 p.m.
Police believe Purpura died instantly.
Project developers David Cooper and Jeffrey Woda from the Woda Group released the following statement:
“Today an employee of one of our subcontractors at our Boury Lofts project in Wheeling fell and died. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and coworkers of the individual. “
