OSHP: Alcohol Suspected as Factor in Fatal Jefferson County Crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that happened early Tuesday morning on US 22 at the John Scott Connector.

Zachary Taylor Michael, 23, of Steubenville was driving a 1996 GMC Sonoma pick-up eastbound on US 22 around 2 a.m.

Michael was at the John Scott Connector when he drove off the right side of the road and hit an embankment.

The truck flipped and he was thrown out of it.

Michael was taken to Wheeling Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Authorities say alcohol is suspected in the crash and the driver wasn’t wearing his safety belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
